The Durable Slate Company
The Durable Slate Company was founded in 1986 as a slate roof restoration contractor. At that time, most local roofing companies repaired slate roofs with such materials as caulk, tar, and metal. Where actual slates were used for repair, the slates often were the wrong size, color, or thickness. The more repair done on a slate roof, the uglier it became. Often, the leaks were not even handled. Due to the prevalence of poor repairs, many slate roofs were removed and replaced with non-historic materials.
