So why is the question mark a part of the name? The owner of the company, John Sanford, started the company when his wife was pregnant with the family's first child. Not knowing whether the child would be a girl or a boy, the question mark was added to the name. The name, Sanford & Son was an obvious choice because the well-known television show of the 70's of the same name would add a touch of humor, and recognition, to the company. Sanford & Son? was born and, since 1994, has been "serving all of your overhead door needs."
