Many of my shoots are on location. I tend to bring lots of equipment to the job. Many shoots require a little time beforehand, to select locations and set up lighting. Other shoots require a fast flexible approach with flash on camera to follow a moving situation.

I bill from the time I arrive till I leave with a one hour minimum. After the first hour, billing is in fractions of an hour.

Photojournalism by definition places emphasis on imagery, not words, to tell a story. Easier said than done. Erlina and Young have mastered this process through technical ability and, more importantly, through their capacity to find the extraordinary among the everyday.

My love of photography began when I was a child. It started with a roll film camera that I won by selling seeds. I knew nothing about lighting or exposure, but I loved capturing images on that camera. When my fourth grade art teacher told me that my pictures were "nice" I was hooked.

In a split second of vision, what the eyes say is beautiful or interesting, that is what I try to capture in a photograph. The brain computes the signal: "this is something good." It may be attractive or ugly, a composition of three similar objects, or a stark contrast between foreground and background. I then try to get just what the eyes signaled was photo-worthy. This idea of what to shoot is similar to what Flaubert, the French novelist, called le mot juste (the exact word). By that he meant: write down the literary image in the exact words in which the original inspiration was clothed in coming from the brain. Transposed to photography, that means the exact image, with bounderies and depth.

I Love horses! As far back as I can remember I have been obsessed with these remarkable animals. My involvement with horses began when I was 7 years old and had my first riding lesson. Lessons led to horse shows and on to becoming a horse show judge. Becoming a judge gave me the opportunity to understand and to see how horses are put together (crucial to an equine photographer).
